GUSTAV GURSCHNER 1873-1970
Gustav Gurschner was an Austrian sculptor, medallist, and artisan who made a significant impact on Viennese craftsmanship around 1900.
Trained at the Vienna School of Applied Arts, he also studied in Munich and Paris before settling permanently in Vienna from 1898 onwards.
He became especially renowned for his finely crafted bronzes—including lamps, furniture fittings, door handles, and small sculptures—that elegantly combine art and function. Gurschner’s designs are distinguished by dynamic lines, archaic forms and ornaments, and exceptional craftsmanship.
Closely associated with the Vienna Secession, he exhibited regularly with the movement and gained international recognition, notably through his participation in the 1900 Paris World’s Fair.
